When you think of the legacy you want to leave, what does it look like?

Many of my clients come to me when they’re unsure of where they want to end up in life. They aren’t 100% clear on what they’re passionate about, and they don’t know how to go about translating their passions into profits.

To help them (and now, you!) I’ve developed a 6-step L.E.G.A.C.Y formula that will help you pursue your passions to create a life you’ll love!

L: Live

Your Passion: When you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work anymore. Living your passion will allow you to do amazing work that you’re genuinely interested in. How can you do this? You don’t have to know exactly where you want to be in ten years to live your best life now. My top tip: try and come up with a general idea that sums up your passions. For example, a great one would be: I want to help people realize their full potentials and achieve their goals. Right away, you’ll have a direction that will help you evaluate new opportunities and decide which ones best match with your interests.

Your Purpose: Your purpose is your ‘why’. It’s the mission statement that will help guide your life and influence your decisions. I would recommend writing one down on a piece of paper and sticking it in a prominent place, such as above your desk to keep you inspired. My mission statement is:

I’m an authentic leader and relationship connector with a keen eye for identifying, recruiting, and developing top talent. I’m passionate about inspiring people to implement new ideas to maximize performance and achieve excellence.

To Your Fullest Potential: Apply yourself fully to everything that you do and you’ll establish a reputation as being a remarkable, passionate, successful person. You’ll also no longer have room to think ‘what if?’ because you will never have wasted an opportunity.

E: Envision, Embrace, Excel

Envision your best life: Imagine your dream life. Where are you? What kind of things do you do? What do you have? Where are you in your career? A great way to stay on track towards your ideal life is to create a vision board, which is a visual manifestation of your passions. You can cut pictures out of magazines or print out some quotations that you know will inspire you to be your best. Get creative!

Embrace change: No matter what industry you’re in, this fast-paced technological world that we live in will only get faster. We need to be adaptable, flexible, and versatile to keep up with new trends. My advice: stay ahead of the game by keeping on top of technological advances and how they impact your industry! By staying plugged in, you’ll be able to see how you can leverage your passions to maximize your success in the market.

Excel at what you do: Excelling means more than just doing a good job. The reality is that today’s job market is extremely competitive. You may not be able to just rely on making a career out of your passions – you’re going to have to find a way to leverage your skills and natural talents. Be outstanding to stand out!

G: Go

Go after your dreams: If you don’t do it now, you’ll regret it. If you don’t yet know what your passion is yet, take some time to soul search and really consider what your ideal future looks like. Find out what gets you excited and what you’re passionate about! My advice: forget other people’s expectations of you and drop your own ego. Design your own destiny and live it for yourself!

A: Always

Always be connecting: You never know what can happen when you make a new connection! The more people you connect with, the more chances you have to find new opportunities while creating genuine, meaningful relationships.

C: Change

Change your thinking: When you change the way you look at things, the thing you’re looking at also changes. Above all else, employers value candidates who can take initiative, see things differently, and create opportunities. Don’t let yourself get stuck in the mindset you’ve always had – step outside of your comfort zone every once and a while and do things a little differently!

Y: You

You matter: Never forget this. Your life has a purpose. Your story is important. Your dreams count. Your voice matters! You were born to make an impact, and it’s time for you to take your destiny into your own hands and pursue your passions with confidence. Never allow self-doubt to limit you, because you deserve to pursue your passions and live your best life.
