I recently attended an incredible conference in Santa Clara, California run by the Experts Industry Association (that I’m a proud member of!) on top success principles that can help you make an impact on your life and this world. I went with Melyssa Moniz, Live Your Passion Author and Mentor. I met with some amazing professionals and inspiring speakers, including Jack Canfield, co-creater of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Les Brown, World’s Leading Motivational Speaker, Brendon Burchard, founder of Experts Academy, and numerous other New York Times Best Selling authors who know what it takes to achieve a dream and make a significant impact in this world!

Their core message of the week had to do with how you can leverage marketing and your mindset to create success in your career, life, or education. So, here are my key takeaways that I call the 6 P’s of Success:

1. Personal Development

When you work on you, everything else follows. This is because you’re taking the time to invest in yourself: to give yourself an edge in your career and life. Personal development can consist of attending relevant courses, trying something new, signing up for training events, or simply learning more about what interests you!

2. Persistance

Everyone faces challenges in their lives. The goal is to stay focused, never compromise on your dreams, and overcome the obstacles that you face. When Jack Canfield tried to publish Chicken Soup for the Soul, he was rejected 144 times. He never gave up. He saw the impact that he could have on the world with his work and persisted through rejection. Now, his books are some of the most popular life improvement guides on the shelves with over 500 million copies sold worldwide!

3. Passion

When you’re passionate about something, you experience an energy shift. You go from being unremarkable to standing out in a crowd! Success doesn’t happen when you carry negative energy with you, so pay attention to your energy level and how you perceive yourself. Go into a situation believing in what you have to say and you’ll find that people will start to listen.

4. Positioning

I witnessed an amazing demonstration while at the conference: a participant was called on stage and was told to say a sentence beginning with ‘I can’t’ followed by one that started with ‘I can’. The transformation was incredible – after saying ‘I can’t’, their body physically weakened and it was obvious to the audience that they didn’t believe in themselves. This is the power of positive affirmation. Take care to notice what you say and how you say it, and remember the power that your choice of words can have on your message, your energy, and your passion.

5. Planning

The most significant component of success is having a vision or a dream that you can commit yourself to. For those of you who are unsure about how you want to spend your lives, you don’t have to have it all figured out right this minute! The key is to dream big, be creative, and construct a map for yourself that will take you towards your dream future. Maps can change, but the time you lost waiting for inspiration to strike isn’t something that you’ll ever get back. My top tip: sit down and try to develop a plan for your next 18-24 months. What do you want to accomplish? What new connections do you want to make? How do you want to develop yourself personally?

6. Promise

Your promise is what you are committed to delivering. This ties in with your personal brand: what is it that you want to be known for? How can you help other people? What unique value do you bring?

Now that you know what it takes to be a successful professional, tell me about what you’re going to do to change your life. How do you plan on making the most of the next few months? What are you going to do in the new year that will help you get on track towards achieving your dream? Let me know in the comments section!
